Mediataranews.com ; Drs Bintang Susmanto Ak MBA CA QIA : Changi, Apr 3, 2025, Situation in Myanmar. The earthquake caused at least 3,085 deaths, over 4,600 injuries, and 373 missing individuals. Due to the ongoing civil war and extensive infrastructure damage, hospitals were overwhelmed, and rescue efforts faced significant challenges. Relief aid groups also reported the shortage of food, water, and adequate sanitation, raising concerns about the potential spread of cholera in the disaster area. United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) estimated that the disaster had affected more than 17 million people across 57 of Myanmar’s 330 townships. While international aid continued to arrive (see Table 3, 4, and 5 for the aid contribution to Myanmar), there were concerns over safety due to the ongoing fighting. To facilitate the relief efforts, Myanmar’s junta declared a temporary ceasefire from 2 to 22 Apr 2025; the announcement was followed by a unilateral temporary ceasefire announced by armed resistance groups. The Myanmar government also announced the allocation of 500 billion MMK (~ SGD319 million) for earthquake relief and recovery efforts. Changi RHCC’s assessment of the situation is RED.

Situation in Thailand. Damaged buildings were reported, and some metro and light rail services were suspended following the initial hours of the earthquake; Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports also issued precautionary notices to airlines, though no flight disruptions were recorded. A 30-storey skyscraper that was under construction, collapsed on 28 Mar 2025, and trapped 43 workers. Changi RHCC’s Civ-Mil partner, Peaceland Foundation, together with Ruamkutanyu Foundation, provided support to the Thai Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team to search for survivors at the collapsed building during the initial phase. Rescue teams from US and Israel joined subsequently to assist the Thai authorities to search through the rubble using scanning equipment (see Table 7 for the aid contribution to Thailand). To date, there were 22 fatalities and 35 injured in Bangkok. Changi RHCC’s assessment of the situation is GREEN.
